Perfect for autumn, the Natural Gorgeous Deep Forest Collection brings together the rich tones of tourmaline, green chrysoprase, red garnet, purple amethyst, soft smoky quartz and warm gold vermeil.
These are some of the chrysoprase and gold vermeil pieces from the collection. Chrysoprase, a form of chalcedony, is a beautiful stone and one of my all-time favorites. That rich green color is all natural, the result of trace amounts of nickel compounds.
According to Wikipedia, “Chrysoprase is cryptocrystalline, which means that it is composed of crystals so fine they cannot be seen as distinct particles under normal magnification. This sets it apart from rock crystal, amethyst, citrine, and the other varieties of crystalline quartz which are basically transparent and formed from easily recognized six-sided crystals. Other members of the cryptocrystalline silica family include agate, carnelian and onyx.”
According to LQ Gemworks, one of my all time favorite suppliers, “chrysoprase was favored by Greek, Roman, and Egyptian artists and is often found in ancient jewelry. It is prized for it vibrant apple green color and is one of the stones associated with the sign of Gemini.”
